Pfizer India announces
12-week paternity leave policy

At Pfizer India, we believe our employees are at the heart of everything we do as an organisation and ensuring their 360-degree welfare is our key responsibility. Over the years, our fabric as an organisation has steadily grown strong due to the interweaving of workplace equity and diversity with employee-first initiatives and programs. Taking this growing emphasis on employee equity a notch above Pfizer has been steadily working towards implementing programs and policies with our people at the centre.

In line with this endeavour to constantly elevate employee lives, we realise that aspects such as extended paternity leave would help new parents bring up the next generation with much care, love, affection, and equality; at the same time, they will work with a greater commitment and passion towards the company’s growth when they are back in the office. Therefore, we have introduced a 12-week paternity leave policy for our employees, thereby aiming to further bolster our employee-centric work environment. This new leave policy has been effective since 1st January 2023 and can be availed not only by biological but, also by adoptive fathers.

As part of this policy, birthing and non-birthing fathers receive the flexibility to avail of these leaves over a period of two years. The minimum number of leaves that can be availed in a single tranche is two weeks and the maximum is as high as six weeks. In case of any added complications, our employees can also apply for additional leaves, given Pfizer India’s liberal leave policy. This initiative by Pfizer India is a significant move towards fostering inclusion, diversity, and equity within our organisation and recognising employee needs even outside of the workplace. We believe the future of a progressive workspace will be defined by practices that propagate a more equity-driven and inclusive approach.

Pfizer has also been making waves when it comes to other employee-first policies and programs, that are fuelling our dream to be a future-ready workplace. These facilities include Telemedicine with access to doctors across 30+ therapeutic specialties, EAP (Employee Assistance Program) that offers global wellness and mental health support, medical plan, and infertility treatment up to a maximum of maternity coverage to create a safe and inclusive workplace for its employees.
